Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell

Amazing
This is a must read. Just get the whole series, you won't regret it.

Vampireに恋した17歳の少女
吸血鬼を題材にした小説は数多くあるが、本書は主人公はとことん運動神経のない高校生の少女で、初恋の相手が吸血鬼の同級生という設定がユニーク。

転向したBellaが出会った吸血鬼の家族は美男子・美少女揃いで、頭脳明晰かつ運動神経は超人的で数百年を生きることができるスーパーマン一族。その一人（Edward）と主人公が恋に落ちてしまう。

少しコメディタッチで少し怖く巧みなストーリー展開は、日本の少女マンガの世界を思わせる部分もある。大人の男性である自分でも十分楽しめましたが、初恋をする世代の方が読むと最も夢中になれるのではないかと感じた。

海外で大人気ということで読んでみた。
スコットランドの友人が言うには、欧米ではハリーポッターを凌ぐ人気だそうです。
彼女に薦められて読んでみました。

転校生である主人公の不安や、
かっこいい彼への初恋、
母や父への思い、

そんな感情が事細かに綴られています。

はやく展開しろ！！、、、たらたらして、、、、もう読まねー！！
いや、やっぱ読む！！

の繰り返しでした。
という訳で、続編３つも読みそうです。

しかし、いかにもなアメリカ文学で、
人物や景色の描写がくどくて私は辟易してしましました。
ということで☆は３つです。

Just Impressed...
I really did not know this book exists until my friend bugs me to read this.I'm just confused because she was so overwhelmed..and I don't get it.I know the film existed but I was "UNLUCKY" enough not seeing it on the big screen for some unexpected events. When I decided to watch the movie online I was shocked and thrilled.I was expecting awesomeness but I can't get enough of it. Then I started reading the book I was amazed.I did not know such story can this be better.I'm so excited after finishing it in two days.I was craving for more "bella and edward" moment. I realized the book was far more brilliant.The film was good in way but it can be better for its next sequel and I can't wait.
Really,this book is by far one of the most exciting and romantic books I've ever read and it is highly recommended.You just have to feel the excitement for yourself; worthy of your time and penny..;)

女の子は好きかもね…
映画を見て「これは原作をかなり編集してるな」という印象を受けたので、日本語版の文庫を本屋で手に取ったのですが、Edwardの台詞が日本語だとあまりにも違和感を感じたので結局原書を読むことにしました。私は今4作目のBreaking Dawnを半分くらいまで読み終わったところですが、一冊そのものの完成度としては本書が一番まとまりがあっていいと思います。（内容の濃さでいえば話は別ですが）

ただ、本書を読んでEdwardの甘すぎる台詞や変態チックな行動に気持ち悪さを覚えた方はどうぞ次のNew MoonでJacobファンになって下さい。（実際私がそうですから。）
