正しい文章書式の基本
本書は、英文書式の基本書、The Elements of Styleの第四版である。
アメリカの大学では入学生の必読文献になっているという。
毎年発行されているので年度の新しいのを入手されたらよいと思う。
2009年版
Elements of Style
もっとも、中古書はそのぶん割安に入手できるかもしれない。

全第五章からなる。
所有の 'sの打ち方に始まり書式の様々な約束事を説明し、
作文の基本原則に触れ、
最後に自分の持ち味を活かす文章スタイルについても述べている。

索引も含め100ページほどの分量である。
内容は充実しており、読み進めるのに時間がかかるかもしれない。
しかし、意欲ある英語学習者の多くが、本書を既に読了されたことであろうと思われる。

名著ですね
多読用＋ボキャブラリーを増やすために読みましたが、思った以上に感心させられた本。
もともとは半世紀も前に書かれた本らしいので、現在の視点でみると堅苦しい文章の書き方かもしれず、「古
い」という表現が当てはまるのかもしれないが、思うに、パブリックな場面でオマヌケだと思われないような書き
方をするには、古い文体だったとしてもこの本に書いてあるような書き方が今でも望ましいのではないのだろう
か。
コンパクトにまとまってる点や、単にわかりやすい文章を書くというテクニカルなことにとどまらず、ロジカルに表現
するとはどういうことかという観点から書かれてる点はこの本の優れたところではないかと。ぶあついロジカルうん
たらという本を読むよりも、まずはこっちを読んだほうがよいと思う。

Nice refernce
There is a lot of good advice in this small book. Strunk's ideas can be used easily in many situations. I like the way the information was laid out.
